Anatomy in Motion (AiM)
Anatomy in Motion (AiM) is a movement-based assessment and treatment approach that looks at the body as a whole, exploring how your joints, muscles, nerves, and fascia work together during movement. This innovative method challenges traditional thinking by identifying your body’s natural movement patterns and using them to restore balance, improve function, and create an environment for self-correction.
What It Is
AiM examines how every joint in the body moves during each phase of the gait cycle—how you walk—and uses that information to understand where restrictions, compensations, or inefficiencies may be occurring. The goal is not just to address pain or dysfunction, but to restore the body’s full movement potential so it can work as it was designed. Guided movements are used to retrain the nervous system, improve coordination, and encourage optimal joint mechanics.
Who It Helps
Anatomy in Motion can benefit individuals with:
- Chronic or recurring joint and muscle pain
- Postural imbalances and asymmetries
- Sports injuries and performance limitations
- Mobility restrictions or stiffness
- Gait and walking pattern abnormalities
- Foot, ankle, knee, hip, back, and neck issues linked to movement dysfunction
What to Expect
Your session begins with a detailed movement and gait assessment. Your provider will observe and analyze how your body moves through different positions and phases of walking, identifying where your mechanics deviate from optimal patterns. You’ll then be guided through specific, targeted movements to restore balance, improve joint alignment, and encourage efficient movement. This process can help reduce strain on overworked areas and allow underused areas to re-engage.
Precautions
AiM is safe and gentle for most patients but may be modified for those with acute injuries, certain neurological conditions, or post-surgical limitations. Your provider will adapt the session to meet your needs and ensure comfort throughout.
